Scrape all you can off first with a spoon or plastic putty knife. Warm iron as Scot mentions, but NO Steam. Paper towelling in several layers, or layers of brown paper sack material (the kind groceries use, no waxed paper bags though) Keep changing out new paper as the warmed wax is absorbed into the paper.

Plain brown paper bag-grocery store one, you may need several depending on how much wax is in the carpet.

Iron the bag over the wax on low, no steam, repeat with fresh areas of the bag, do this until no more wax is on the bag.
