Howdy Ana, If you're keeping the furnishings, try adding some light greys and dusty rose sheers on the windows and pick up the greys and rose in some throw oillows for the futon! Just my quarter spent! Best 2 ya, show us what you do! JL

Ana, Since you have a lot of red in the room, I would paint the walls a lighter color. Printed black and white curtains, but make sure there is more white in the back ground. Like JL suggested Grey will be a good color direction for the walls.

Gray would look wonderful to keep it from being too matchy matchy and allow a different element. Good luck!

If you like warmer tones, try a rich neutral like Ben Moore, HC-38, 39, 44 or 45. They will soften the red and black.

You have already started your color palette with the red and black. Go shopping for curtains that have red and black in the pattern to use as the transition to aid in pulling your colors together. Before you purchase the curtains check out the other colors within the fabric to see if one of the colors might be suitable for a paint color and accent color for your room. Your paint color will come from the colors within your color palette. You curtains can be the "personality" you need to ...»

Hi Ana, welcome to HomeTalk! I would consider the colors in the carpet and futon fabric to establish the final phase of color. If they have a grey color in the weave, I would paint the walls Sherwin Williams 7071 Gray Screen. It is a cool light gray. The other option is a safe neutral like Sherwin wiliams 6106 Kilm Beige. This color is the number one used beige in the Sherwin Williams color line. For that reason, you know that it has a mass appeal & will fit with most design palettes. To ...»
continue the contemporary look, I would put a flat roman shade that matches the wall color or a honeycomb shade the wall color. True contemporary style has very minimal window treatments.

Thank you all! I know it's hard to help me without seeing the room! I didn't discover how to post pictures yet!

I have tried red and black curtains. Red gives too much of red and black is too depressing to me! I like gray ideas! I just don't know how to make two greys (walls and curtains) looking not the same and good at the same time!

Hi Ana, I would definitely go with lighter walls since you have a dark colors as your primary colors. I would also make sure that the ceiling is a shade lighter than the walls if you go with a light grey this will open the room up a bit. You have great colors wich will be a lot of fun! Good luck with this room...please post before and after pics. TMW

Texture in the curtain fabric will make it more interesting Ana, but it is not necessary in this case. However, you have very strong colors in your furniture and rug, therefore to keeping the walls and curtains monochromatic (same tones) will keep the tension out of the space & make it more relaxing and make the walls recede. I am with you the strong tones on the windows are ikkkkkk!

How about an area rug & pick paint colors from there...add white wood blinds with a cornice or valance...I too favor a pale gray paint...add throw pillows to the futon to tone it down.
