Giving Your Home More Character

I always say that you should not limit yourself or your home! Many people live in manufactured homes, and for many reasons. Just starting out.... down-sizing... limited finances..... some rural areas have hardly any stick-built homes!
Just because your HOME has the word "manufactured" or "mobile" in front of it... doesn't mean you can't enjoy the oohh's & aahh's of a beautiful period house. {Don't we all secretly wish for one of those beautiful old colonial & craftsman style home}
It just takes a little extra time & effort than a traditional stick-built home..... and it's all in the details! {or rather, the moulding} TRIM, TRIM, TRIM!!!
I found this large scale, detailed trim at Home Depot & really loved it! Being MDF helps keep the cost down, but it's still not inexpensive.... so I have been buying it on a room by room basis ;-) I have used it for the top trim on *ALL* my windows & doors. I also used it to create pillar and column effects in some areas of our older {manufactured} home. All done with just trim mouldings!
The same large trim that tops all my windows & doors {bedroom/bathroom doors too!} becomes the top & bottom of my 'pillars'

{sorry for the poor quality pictures! Those color blemishes are only in the photo}
bottom of my laundry room 'pillar'
by using the large trim on the top & bottom, then using 1x5 MDF on each side of the corner..... it created the look of a pillar! {I used this same effect where my dining room and hallway walls meet}
Here is the large opening between the main living areas {you can see the other 'pillar' in the background}
The large opening between the main living areas got a "column" effect by using the same concept as my pillar corners. I started by running the large trim across the full width!
Of course the large trim is flipped upside-down {so-to-speak} for the bottoms
To created the look of a recessed panel..... a small, simpler trim was used to create a frame first, then the 1x5's on each side were aligned to cover the edges
Never put limits on yourself..... your abilities.... your dreams... or your home!

Your home is just like your life. It is a story. It takes time to evolve ;-)

{I am not a blogger, just hopelessly addicted to creating, & a lifelong DIY'er}
