Sweet potato vines

I love my sweet potato vines in my containers! I've been reading that they are used as annuals, however they say at frost they go dormant and do not die because of there annual roots. Has anyone got more than one season from this vine? Do you keep them in a pot over winter in a basement or garage, or dig up and put the roots in a bag? I would love to hear it anyone has tried this.Thanks.

I bring my potato vine in and use it as a house plant. In the spring I take cuttings and start new plants, But keep my old plant also. Helps keep the air cleaner in the inside also.

I live in Mississippi...very hot summers....I planted 2 hanging pots of the yellow potato vines in the early spring...they were getting very depleted and looking tired, so a couple of weeks ago, I dug underneath them and removed the potatoes and added new potting soil and gave them a good dose of Miracle Gro, trimmed the runners back to about a foot long and they are happily perky again and putting on new runners like crazy, I know this doesnt answer your question, but I thought it would be helpful to keep them going for the entire summer

I have sweet potato vines that I have brought inside during our northern Indiana winters that are 9 years old. I cut them back and water sparingly. Good luck!

My zone is 6. I only grow them for the summer. However I take cuttings during the season root them in water. Then I plant them up and would take them inside for the winter season and treat them as a houseplant.
