$8 Thrift Store Chair Makeover With Indian Inlay Stencils

I have been in love with bone inlay furniture lately. Sadly, I do not have the budget for it. I decided that I wanted the look without burning a hole in my wallet. Enter Cutting Edge Indian Inlay Stencil Kit! Click here to see the whole post on my blog
I am so happy with the turnout of this chair. I bought the chair for $8.00 at a thrift store and now it looks like it would be worth much more! I love the Indian Inlay stenciled furniture makeovers out there, but I haven't seen many chair makeovers. The stencils are much easier to use with flat surfaces so you see a lot of tables and dresser makeovers. Chairs, on the other hand, are a bit more challenging.
Here is the chair prior to the stenciling. The chair has a great shape, but it's just homely in color and the patterned fabric is so dated. I lightly sanded the entire chair, then wiped it with a moist paper towel to get started.
The makeover was courtesy of Cutting Edge Stencils. The stencil kit is so awesome and brings 5 different stencils. You can make any type of design you prefer and can use the same stencils, in different order, to do a variety of furniture or fabric stenciled makeovers.
I decided to use a mix of Folkart Sheepskin chalk paint and Canvas color acrylic paint to try and get a bone color. I added some Pearl paint from Martha Stewart's line, but unfortunately the entire paint look I wanted was not successful.
The stenciled paint did look great! It just didn't have the pearly effect I was hoping for. Use your roller to apply a thin coat of your paint after you have positioned and leveled your stencil. Blot off almost all of the paint before you roll. You do not want excess paint or it will bleed under the stencil. I found out the hard way. :(
