Glass Telephone Insulator Centerpiece

I've always loved the look of these old glass insulators from telephone poles, but I never could quite figure out how to use them in a practical way. Besides being a paperweight, which didn't really work considering I don't have an office (I don't think you'd call a classroom an "office", would you?) they just sat in a bucket, waiting for inspiration to strike.
I finally figured it out.
All I needed to do was find a way for them to sit "upside down", because once they did, they could be filled with water, candles, or really anything else.
I used a hole saw to drill holes in a piece of old dock wood.
Now, they stand up straight, hold water, and fit little tea light candles perfectly!
Isn't the weathering from the water just gorgeous on this piece of wood? No hand or paint brush can replicate something that only mother nature can create. I love the unique, antique charm it adds to our table. Check out the full post by clicking on the link below. Can anyone think of other ways this piece can be used?
