Look into the various resin/plastic decking that is sold. Seems there are many kinds, so researching may give you ideas. I have pine boards and just wash, scrub them, rinse and put on some maroon colored deck stain that costs $9 a gallon. It wears off but didn't peel.

What is the wood? I sanded both of my decks and applied an oil based stain. Just have to clean every spring and reapply stain every two years. Not a great deal of work.
