Is this some sort of old leveling tool?

While digging way down deep in my garden close to my house to find out why I could never get plants to grow there, I found this tool (?) about 3 1/2 - 4 feet down....next to an independent cement slab about 3 feet square! My house was built in the early -mid 50's. Can anyone tell me what it is or what it was used for?

Without having it in my hands and being able to look at it closely...it almost looks like it could be a 'point' from an old farm cultivator. Do you live in an area that used to be farm ground years ago? My dad was a farmer who grew pinto and pink beans. I remember helping him replace the points on the cultivator every other year or so when they would become worn and dull. That's just my guess, but now I think it is interesting 'yard art!'

this is part of a sickle bar on a mowing machine. The moveable part of the blade runs through this part to cut the hay.

Binged all of your responses and i would have to say it is the sickle bar mower tooth. Use "vintage sickle bar mower teeth" on bing.com and you will find the pic. Can't get to the pintrest page from my access point...

It looks like a sickle bar blade guard to me. You see them in pairs usually but that is exactly what it looks like. The more I look at it the more sure I am. Look it up on Google under Antique Sickle Bar Blade Guard and look at the Images.

Hi there, we stay on a farm on the West Coast of Cape Town, South Africa and we've also found many of these on the farm. These are tent pegs, the tent support rope was tied through the hole and then the peg was hammered into the ground to keep the rope tight.

Looks just like a plumb bob, but it's probably not. Only history will tell us.
