Repurpose a dresser, take drawers out, add shelving. Might need a tall dresser! Stain or paint, fill it with books!

We used a stack of old trunks for coffee tables, and stored them in there

I have an old trunk, but I lost the key at a carwash. Its locked. Any suggestions to how to open the trunk and still look good?

I've seen on the design shows where they take stacks of books and wrap two leather belts around either end and buckle them to keep them secure, put a small plexiglass top on it and use it as a small end/lamp table. Depending on the size of your books and whether they're hard/soft back. I probably wouldn't do it with paperback books.

I'm a little slow here. I guess I don't have that many books, but I do have a new kitty. Something to think about.

That's simple. Buy or make some bookcases.

I have the same problem...LOVE my books! I found four drawers from an old waterbed frame and added casters & drawer handles and put them under my bed. Side note: I did have to use bed risers to accommodate the extra height needed...

Take two of your end tables, connect them with some timber, ?? feet apart. Add uprights and attach shelves to them. A new bookcase utilising a couple, or more, of your end tables :) Or if lacking in floor space, create a run of shelving with brackets and planks all around the room at picture rail height :)

Mount brackets to the wall. Use skateboards as shelves, minus the wheels. Or snowboards, ironing boards, a set of skis. I have found each of these items curbside. Even bi-fold doors have possibilities.

Take an old ladder and make shelves with bracketed ends. Or how about an old dresser? A nice nine-drawer dresser could have the back taken off, make back-to-back shelves so both sides can be open. You could use as a room divider, or place it anywhere (just one set of shelves might be against a wall).
