Giving A Fresh Look To A Sentimental Old Chair

I’ve had a love/hate relationship with this rocking chair for a long time. I bought it in 1988 to use as a rocking chair for my daughter. I've held onto it all these years, but it needed a makeover. makevover
This is how it looked before the makeover. It's dark, old and tired looking. Drab!
Check out the dated flower details!
I cleaned it with TSP and then gave it two coats of Annie Sloan Old White Chalk Paint.
Once it was fully dry, I used my detail palm sander to give it a distressed look.
I distressed along the edges and curves of the chair.
To give it a little coastal feel, I used stencils and peach chalk paint to add these sea shells.
Two coats of polycrylic later and the makeover was finished.

I love the finished product! I have a chair nearly identical to that one that I'm planning to redo but I'm wondering about the two coats you used on your chair...I've used chalk paint multiple times...different brands too...and it usually takes AT LEAST three coats to get full coverage. The last project took 4 coats and it was with a magnolia brand chalk paint...is there a special technique, brush or roller you use to give it such full coverage in just two coats? I'd appreciate any tips! :)

    I have to ask, what’s TSP…?

I was given a rocking chair for my front porch. It’s that same dark wood.

I’d absolutely LOVE to paint it white, but thought it would be quite a job prepping it. I don’t do a lot of painting, so I usually need advice for one thing or another. How difficult is it to prep…?

    Thanks in advance!!
