I have noticed that on one side of my house the grass/ground is quite damp.

What could possibly be causing this. Also, it is a side of the house on the main floor where a bathroomt is. I am afraid to ask. There is no smell but too damp for normalcy. Maybe in summer it wasn't noticable because of the GA heat...mmmhhh??

    Is the area flat?

I'm with Belle. If you know it's not pooling precipitation, you might have a broken pipe of some kind, and it's worth having a pro check it out ASAP.

It did just rain in the Atlanta area and since it is not hot that could explain the dampness. If you are worried about a pipe leaking, then you could check your meter against your last water bill to see if the usage is normal. OR just call a plumber.
  • Check the grading on the side yard, if there are raised areas holding back water when it rains this would cause the symptoms you are describing. I have been to many homes where a 5 inch hump is holding back hundreds of gallons of water, pooling water can seep into many unwanted places
  • It could be a grading issue, some parts around my home are damp because the site is not sloped very well.
  • Grading, is one cause, another is shading. Sun exposure also has a lot to do with how dry one side of a house is as compared to another. As homes age, shrubs and trees grow changing the profile of the ground as well as the suns exposure. It may be time to do a bit of landscaping or tree trimming.

Are you on septic or County / City Sewer? It could be your septic field or just the wet / cold season in GA. Otherwise I agree with group that it's prob a grading issue.

It is a flat area bu tthe yard next to it slopes. I have been in the house for 11 yrs and never noticed so something has changed. I will compare th ewater bills and also consult a pro. Thanks to you all for the good information.
