This is my dining room window. The arch of the window touches the bottom of the crowd molding leaving no room for a curtain rod. I need suggestions on how to hang curtains in this room.

Personally I wouldn't cover up the top part but rather hang your curtain rod from the rail your blind is hanging from. That way you get plenty of natural light but no one can see in.

    Agree with Theresa Bradshaw.

Hang a beutiful decorative rod under the arch portion. Leave the arch section exposed entirely. Use two panels and leave just enough fabrics to puddle on the floor. Pull both drapes to the side exposing the middle portion of the main window as well. It's a dramatic look that will allow for the architecture to still shine through.

Agree with Theresa and Marlena. But also agree with Doroth that you need some artwork on the walls.

I don't think I would hang curtains on this beautiful window/trim work either, but I can't see the rest of the room decore so if I did, I would put at rod at the first horizontal window frame and leave the arched windows exposed

Normally with palladium windows, I would agree to place the rod along the horizontal line of the lower windpws. This however is more of an eyebrow window, and I think it would look odd above the drapes. I agree that the window looks fine without drapes, but that is a matter of personal taste. If you want drapes, I would place the curtain rod right under the crown molding, as close as you can get it. You will need a bracket that brings the rod far enough away from the wall so it clears the trim on the window. You can buy extenders for the brackets if you need them. I would do a sizeable rod that goes wall to wall so you can stack the drapes to the sides of the actual window.

You could also just replace your horizontal blinds with a beautiful roman blind in a fabric that coordinates with your room.

Straight across and let the top of the window show. Easy! Will let the window still show its beauty and add privacy!

Take two cup hooks and screw them under each side of the valance.then buy a bungee cord long enough to reach the two hooks. Slide your bungee cord Through the top of the curtain.no one will see it!

The window is too beautiful to cover with curtains. I'd go with Sawyer Fever's suggestion.

unless you are trying to keep a peeping tom from climbing on a ladder to look inside, I would leave it open for some light to come in.
  • I agree that it is so pretty that I would not want to hide the top, however...if you wanted to use pvc pipe it will bend to match the shape of the window top.

There are several ways and designs for hanging curtain without using rod. Look out your nearest shop and I'm sure you'll find something interesting and useful for you. For an example, I am providing the below image that will help you to identify your best need.

Position/install the rod level with the horizontal line below the arched part of the window. This allows you to see the detail of the arched window and still have some window dressing. You can use whatever drapes you like on the rod. But.... Actually because there's already a blind on it, it may be fine 'as is". To "dress" the window I'd actually put something on the walls on either side of the window to expand it visually. Examples: Wall mounted shelves to display items, two large framed art prints, mirrors, etc. You get the idea. The thing I see is that the window is gorgeous but it is sorta undersized for the room and the wall. Just expand it visually and you've created a larger more impressive window :-)
