When I decided what color to paint my backyard cottage I wanted to choose a color that I could look at even in winter and feel happy! This was a gray day but this really still stands out to me even so..and makes me smile.

I will have to share before and afters of this you will be amazed was just a plywood shed that was falling apart with no windows and only a rotten piece of plywood for a door, no front overhang etc.
I need to post a before and after of my backyard when I get a chance but just wanted to share a NOW picture

Peramculture is fascinating and just seems to make so much sense. There is a lot on the web out there about it, and I encourage you to research it. Yes, a lot of re-education is needed regarding chemicals too. I understand most cities won't allow for gray water reuse which is sad. Things will be changing in the coming dry future though!! I've made a lot of changes myself over the past decade - no chemicals, no fertilizers etc. It can be done!

Yes its a whole new way of thinking (or really a very very old way of living) and so many times I have thought about saving my shower water to bucket out and water with, but thus far haven't gone that far! I have done other things to limit my water use, and I hope this year to do a much more efficient watering system in my flower beds to keep the water where it needs to be and not where it is wasted. My brother in San Jose after a certain date would get fined for watering his front yard. He continues to water, saying the amount of the fine is much less than replacing all of the expensive sod he has put in. though he has reduced his grass area by over 50% and he waters less than 1/2 of what he did at one time. He has also invested in full scale solar panels, and a few other things to reduce his use of resources (and lower his costs of course), will be about 8 years before he recoups the costs of the panels but he felt it was worth the investment.
