Changing the color of vinyl chairs

Connie Ricke
by Connie Ricke
Has anyone had experience painting vinyl? I have two club chairs in a color that I would like to change. Is there a paint that will hold on vinyl? The chairs do not receive a lot of use or abuse and the seat would be fabric.

Annie Sloan's chalk paint is advertised as a paint that adheres to any surface including fabric

I have used vinyl spray paint on a bike seat. It worked very well so far. It even sits out all year and still is not a problem. I'm sure it would work on a seat inside even better! I think I bought the paint (several years ago) at Home Depot. Check several places online first to see who carries it.

I used Krylon plastic fusion paint on outdoor vinyl cushions in April. This is almost September and they still look like new. They did not fade or crack and I left them outside the entire time.

Here's a link to a woman that painted her leather furniture. I don't know why it wouldn't work on vinyl. http://www.hometalk.com/diy/paint/furniture/diy-painting-leather-with-velvet-finishes-9786137

Like Nancy in Detroit, I used Krylon Plastic Fusion paint. Did a set of vinyl kitchen chairs and they held up wonderfully! No chipping, no cracking. And I did pink paint over the original deep brown vinyl!

I have a vinyl chair that I got for free from a nursing home that was updating. I painted it all over in craft paint. Its still perfect today like 10 years later

I don’t know a thing about painting vinyl. What I do know isthat this color is hot right now. And I love the chair style, too. So I wouldn’tchange the chairs, I’d build a room around them. I recently redid my livingroom in blue and green with turquoise accents and this chair color is my popcolor. I love it!! Those chairs would so make my living room shine! Try workingwith them!! Good luck!

car stores have spray paint made for painting vinyl- for car seat restoration. just google it- you will find a lot of vinyl spray paint. The big box home improvement stores also have spray paint made to adhere to plastics, but I had good luck with the car product.
