They were green all summer and only turned black when the temps began to drop.

I have pretty good luck with cutting the leaves back, leaving the bulb in the pot and letting it sit in the basement over winter. bring it out in the spring, water it, and off it goes.

Ive always wanted to buy the black ones but never have thats weird they didnt change color until now and a good tip about the sap im not trying to loose my eyesight.
