I have a pleather sofa that the 'leather' part is flaking off, the sofa is only 2 years old. I wouldn't attempt painting it, get a sofa throw until you can recover it, that is what I am having to do.

If the piece is only 2 years old, I would first go back to the seller or manufacturer with a major complaint. See what, if anything, they are willing to do to stand behind their products.

I called the store where we purchased our chair(a major furniture store) and then called their home base. I sent pictures of the damage after 2 yrs. and they offered me $200.00 to spend for a new/different chair which we did. There are probably exclusions but it worked for us.

I ALSO HAD A LEATHER SOFA WITH A RIP THAT I HAD PURCHASED FROM MACY'S. I CALLED AND THEY SENT SOMEONE OUT TO REPAIR IT AND IT STILL LOOKS NEW 10 YEARS LATER. IT WAS ON THE SEAT AND I CANT EVEN TELL WHERE THEY REPAIRED IT.

Replace or recover. If the bones are good. you can recover with whatever upholstery material you like.

this is way beyond paint. What you have is called 'bonded leather'. It's cheap. If you google how to reupholster cushions you may find a step by step how-to on you tube. Otherwise, go back to the sellers and raise holy hell! What they did was fraud.
