Bathroom wall tiles

Hi! Just need some ideas how to tile the area where my new shower & bath will be going against the back wall in my Timber VJ home. The shower will be in one corner - glass shower screen straight onto tiled floor. The bath will sit beside this shower screen along the rest of the back wall (a 1500 length bath & and 800 wide x 1100 shower). Now we are tiling the floors with a white & marble type 300x300 tile. The wall tile I have is large rectangular & white. I need the area around shower fully tiles up to the standard 2m, and along the side of the bath (freestanding corner bath). NOW what I'm needing to get an idea about is using DECORATIVE tiles...I've seen where some use them vertical or horizontal in their bathrooms on the wall. My walls are VJ timber painted a cream/beige colour already, with white ceiling (height of walls is 2.4m). The bathroom is 2.3m square - ALSO NEED to try and make the room look LARGER. It is a country style cottage. I love that look. I also want to use Turquoise accents in the room if possible. I've seen some mosaic tile sheets in colours attached - to try and bring the colour of walls & floor tiles in. Some ideas on the layout of decorative tiles would be great. ALSO, along the side of the bath will hopefully sit a timber skinny shelf on brackets to store bath goodies etc.
horizontal tiling?
vertical tiling???
floor tile
love the turquoise
timber shelf (tiles along bath section to only go up so far?)

Horizontal seems to heighten the area......goof luck!
  • I did my own shower w/Glass 6X6 and a vertical stained glass linear mosaic. See the first pic. The 2nd pic is another example I found online. I love the niche on that one.

I would definately use the accent tiles horizontally. However be careful not to choose a color you will get tired of. If you like a specific color you can always accent with towels and rugs.

If this were mine, I would use the long, skinny turquoise tiles in the first tile picture, but place them vertically in the shower - it gives the illusion of height. I love them too - they are gorgeous!

Quick question. ..do i tile to ceiling in the shower stall. ..glass screen will be 190 high but ceiling is 240 high.
    • @Sonya It's a personal choice. As for cleaning, the tiles don't get dirty or wet that far up. A simple wipe down every once in awhile will take care of that. I like to take them all the way up so the eye doesn't stop short. look at pictures on Houzz of shower tile and you will see the difference.
