Frumpy Chairs Find French Flair

When people start realizing you have a hobby, they like to give you stuff. It's nice when the "stuff" is small tid bits, but for me, it's furniture. As full as the storage spaces in our home were, I couldn't pass up on these two chairs my Mom scored at a garage sale. They sat for way too long in a corner waiting to be beautified.

This is what they looked like when we found them. Nice, but in need of some repair.
I decided to paint over the orange wood to better match the decor in our living room. The color I chose was one found at another garage sale: a full can for $5! I mixed it with my homemade chalk paint recipe and it stuck like glue to all those curves and crevices.
For the seat, I used painter's canvas fabric because it's so cheap. It needed a little something more, so with the same paint, I laid out duct tape for grain sack stripes.
Finally, the seat was flipped over and new material stapled to the back over the old.
These pretty chairs have it all: the elegant curves, the decorative edges, the detailed craftsmanship, and I feel like the new paint job and seat cover really bring out that character.
