Sofa table, yes or no?

My husband built this sofa table. We didn't think about the fact that our couch wasn't straight up and down in the back. Should we just forget about doing the table or is there a way to use it without being able to see the inside of the table?
The blue table will be there but is it enough to block the view??

wouldn't it be nicer to just fix the bord to the wall? And maybe stain it dark in order to fit the sofa?

So take the legs off and just put it on the wall like a shelf?

I saw some pictures of sofa table that had small lamps, candles, books, etc on it and I liked the way it looked.

I stained a board dark walnut and put it directly on the wall behind our long couch with some pretty but sturdy shelf brackets. It works great for holding pillows, drinks, remotes, etc. Take those off and make it into a wall shelf! It also lets air circulate from the furnace vent located on the floor behind the sofa.

If it is the side view you don't like, why not move the sides further to the centre, so the top is overhung on each side. Also, either notch the bottom, or make the top a bit wider at the back, to allow for the baseboards. If the sides were stained/painted darker, or to match the walls, they would be less noticeable.

Personally I would restain the piece so it blends in the room.

It appears the table is really quite narrow but I realize sometimes in order to fit things into a room, ya gotta make 'sacrifices". Why not just put a think "front" on the table using 1/4" plywood? Leave enough space at the bottom to allow the heat register space and you've got it :-)

I agree with Connie N........use 1/4 " plywood..............also..........put bottom on, and add casters so easy to pull out.........would also be good to have electrical outlet........also........paint so it blends in with the wall

I would make a black fabric ""skirt"" for it. Make it with wide elastic at the top. It will fit on the table like a halter top on a female with no straps. Leave the top showing for easy everyday use & put the elastic part just under the lip of the table. It will drape down hiding everything & being black, it will blend in with the couch to hide everything. It's also removable for easy laundering. From the front, it will look like the table is part of the couch & from the sides, it will look like a shelf with only blackness underneath & will blend into the color of the couch. Hope this helps. :)

paint it black,cover the opening in a chevron fabric,put an interesting lamp on top and praise your husband for what a good job he did:)))

I liked the ideas above of painting it the wall color and placing a green plant beside it! Don't discourage your helpful hubby, that was great for him to make this!

I would remove it. A sofa table is typically behind a couch but still part of the room decor. A cantilevered shelf would serve your purpose, not look silly, and not have to be hidden by some other thing.

Paint the wood behind the couch the same color as your end table. And put some pretty candle sticks or other decorative items on that narrow ledge behind the couch to make it look like part of the overall design.

Yes, I would remove the sides of the table and replace them with lumber cut to the same measure at the top and a wider measure at the bottom. Or, you can do what I did and just hang a shelf behind the sofa making it narrow enough so that no one smacks their head on it!

add panels on the ends shaped like the sofa's slant , you could even hinge them for easier access behind the sofa , and maybe even cut scroll work into them for air circulation ... I like the table and I'd like to make one just like it .
