Lufa sponges

Can someone please tell me when to harvest these from the vine? Never have grown them before and I am having such a good time. Been gardening all my life and I can't believe these grew this way.
Taken a week ago.

It appears that is ready to be taken off.I feel if you wait they will become to seedy.

harvest as soon as they are 4-6 inches long and still green. If they turn yellow they are too ripe.

Harvest them when they are hard on the outside. Just peel the outside skin away from the part that used to be the flesh--it will be dried up. If it is too dark, give a little bath with bleach. Rince all in a solution of fabric softener and water. Wrap with a ribbon and a little note that says if came from your garden. Amaze your friends.

You can buy lufa sponges at all bed and bath shops to use as exfoliant for your skin. I will try to find a picture of one to share today!
