How to store picture frames for later use

Question

I have taken up painting and frames can be very expensive so I pick them up at garage sales. What is the best way to store unused frames and stretched canvases for later use.

The answer really depends on the amount of space you have available. If space is at a premium, I would use the idea in this post: http://www.hometalk.com/diy/entryway/table/make-this-sofa-table-for-25-7329105 You can then 'tuck' it in behind a sofa. I would use this for the larger frames. For the smaller ones, I would get a drawer, add wheels, and put it under your bed. My husband is a painter and we only used recycled or yard sale framing. He stores all in leaning fashion standing up in corner of garage. Carpet pieces on the floor for protection or that none slip rubber mat. This has worked for him for 30 years.

If you have wall space in the basement or such, I would get deep brackets set up in twos, and place them on those.You could have several sets - one set for large frames, another for mid-size, etc.
