Mid-Century bathroom exhaust fan with heat

Does anyone out there have this type of exhaust fan in their bathroom? We just remodeled the bathroom (more on that later), and haven't used this room in a few months, so maybe my memory doesn't serve me well, but I am having issues with the exhaust part of the fixture.
Before the remodel, the heat wasn't working on this, only the light and the exhaust fan. Now the heat is working (it was the switch), but I am confused about the fan and how it is supposed to operate. I SWEAR the exhaust blew up and out of the room before this, but is now blowing into the room. The contractor says it does both, blows into the room AND out. Does yours do that?

Just wondering if you went througth all of the trouble remodeling why didnt you replace the fan? Now if it cannot be fixed you are going to ruin the ceiling\.

There wasn't anything wrong with fan for it to be replaced.
  • perhaps the fan blades are going in the reverse direction? I've never heard of fans blowing into the bathroom. Some wires got crossed somewhere.

The fan wasn't actually uninstalled during demo. Just hung by the wires while ceiling was drywalled.
  • Well, if it didn't do it before, and it's doing it now, I'd say something got crossed. Did they do any electrical work up there at all? You said the heat didn't work before but it is now because they fixed the switch? When they fixed the switch, did they do some electrical work?? Obviously something was done! Is it possible there is a switch on the fan inside the unit that allows it to reverse? Just take the whole mess out and install a new one!

Yeah I would love to do that. I saw one with Bluetooth capabilities I'm excited about.

Could be that with the heater working now the fan blows the warm air into the room. Is the exhaust fan a separate switch?
    • Becky P Becky P on Aug 29, 2015
Yes there is a separate switch. Apparently that was all that was wrong with the heater was the switch itself.

Could possibly be the fan blows the warm air from the heater into the room. Does the exhaust fan have a separate switch?

I have a heater with a fan in my bathroom. When I turn the heater on the fan comes on to blow the warm air. Maybe it is just a fan blowing the warm air and not the exhaust fan or am I not understanding your question?

@Melanie Smith when the heat is on, and blower is also on, but what I don't get is that requires two switches to operate those both, where as the same switch operates the exhaust fan, too. I'm so confused! lol
