I need more storage space. How to utilize space under the butcher block? That is all wasted space as it is now.

Is there a shelve under the butcher block?

@Janet Pizaro No, it's just empty space from underside of the butcher block cutting board to the floor.

It totally depends upon what you want to store there. If you have appliances - stand mixer, crockpot, etc - that are currently stored in a cabinet, which could be put to better use, that might be a good choice. You could finish off the sides of the butcher block with beadboard, for example, leaving the front open and putting a cute curtain on it. Add hooks and towel bar. You could hang Ikea-type storage on the side to hold cooking utensils, etc. This way you would get bigger, bulkier items stored in an accessible way and gain cabinet space for other items. PS Add shelves as required http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/categories/departments/kitchen/series/08006/

It depends on what you would like to store. I think I would put a shelf underneath and then possibly free it up with nice wicker baskets.
