My son is going to propose to his girlfriend (whom I adore) on a beach. I would love to make something that will always bring the memory back of that day. I was thinking of bringing back sand, shells if I can find them. Other than putting the sand in a jar what other suggestions does anyone have? Thanks so much!

A showbox with dividers is perfect for this!! Can put sand and shells, pictures of moment and also a closeup of him holding her hand with ring, other momentos such as hotel brochure, etc. You could also do a picture frame instead. Glue sand and shells around the corners and spray with a a matte spray to seal and put pictures and other things behind the glass!! Have fun!!!!

I wrote my son and daughter in laws initials in the sand along with the date with a heart around them. I then took a picture of it and framed it. They still have it. You can add shells to the picture also.

this is a great idea you can even go to the point of taking the picture and having it put on canvas and framed and they will have it for a long time

When we lived in Pensacola, FL, I had a coffee table that was built with a "shadow box" type of top. Inside the "box" of the table, there was sand and shells. Then there was a glass top. I loved that coffee table, but when we moved, it was left as we paid the movers by the pound,

I took a 5-6" clear glass ornament ball, removed the cap and hanger carefully. I added a small amount of sand, some tiny shells, a bit of driftwood and I glued the cap back on so the sand wouldn't spill out. You could take a very small piece of paper and and write their names and the date on it and roll up tiny and place in with the sand and shells. These are very pretty displayed on an ornament hanger almost anywhere.

How about this: A sort of "message in a bottle" He takes a bottle with him (wine, coke, whatever) and has a note inside which might even be the proposal in writing. Or, he may just write down the qualities he sees in her and the reason he wants to marry her. They can add a little sand or small shells while they are there at the beach.

I have sand and shells in a candle lantern. It's glass in a box shape designed for candles but I don't like candles so I have sand and shells with my mini windmills displayed in it. You could possibly add a small string of solar lights to show it up when they are entertaining at night. Mine 'lives' on my patio table.

Timeless memories glued to the frame of a mirror with the information (date, time, location) on the back. Not only is it beautiful but, also may be used daily for life in any room. Mine has a wooden frame with shells of all kinds and sand dollars glued completely around the frame which was painted beige that blends as sand color. A white frame would be like Pensacola Beach or Orange Beach sand or you could use your favorite wedding colors. What a kind and thoughtful thing to do!

Thanks so much for the suggestions everyone.

My son did propose (made sure we and her parents were there hidden) - and she said yes. They actually were married in Charleston in Sept.

I brought home the piece of driftwood that my son used to write out the question in the sand, a cup full of the sand, a few shells and a beach flower. It's terrible of me but I still have all of that! I never could quite figure out what to do with it all. I think though I'm going to try to make a shadow box collage with those items, a proposal picture, engagement photo, wedding invitation and a wedding picture. Unless another idea pops up!

    Thanks again!
