Can I paint vinyl flooring to last?

I have a 1/2 bath with old vinyl flooring that, unfortunately, has many small burn marks from my old smoking habit- seems like any ash droppings immediately left marks. Can I paint it? With what? Undercoat? Final coat? Do I need to sand? Need a "temporary " fix until I can afford to redo - which may be awhile. Thanks much.

You can get a kit to restore the vinyl. I believe the name is rejuvenate.

Yes you can. Be sure to several coats of polythane - sealer- on top of paint. I used porch paint.

I would brush the floor with rubbing alcohol, before painting and then a sealer! The alcohol will help the paint adhere to the vinyl. I think this would work!

Yes you can!! I have painted many and they still look great. (Congrates btw on the smoking being an old habit : ) ) I do it like this; light sanding, prime with zinnser primer, paint a few coats of Valspar porch and floor paint, apply several coats of Varathane high traffic UV protected satin super clear. All of these components dry very quickly and a small bathroom won't take that long. You may want to even add a stencil design to your floor while you are at it ; )

Moxie: Great! I'm getting excited. Thanks for the names of the products. Otherwise, I'd still be lost. I hope to make this a fall project if I can get these old 83 yr, old bones a 'movin.
