I have a wood coffee table with water stains and hot food plate stains on it. How could I refinish it?

Is it painted or stained?Try sanding the unit down and retain or repaint then seal it off to prevent the staining as much as possible.
  • I had the same thing - my husband didn't use a coaster! Here is what I did with it: http://wp.me/p3IPNL-gU

Don't refinish it yet! Put a thick layer of mayonnaise on it and let it set at least several hours but preferably overnight. The water stains and the hot food plate stains will vanish and you just have to buff it off in the morning.

Place a clean white T-shirt over the water mark. Iron over the mark with a warm iron, no steam. Check progress frequently. This method sounds unbelievable but I've used it three times with great success. It even removed marks that were several years old from when I tossed very hot baked potatoes onto a table top.
