What to use and how to dye worn areas on burgundy leather sofa?

Question

Although the sofa is old it was made well and still in good condition. The leather, instead of looking shabby chic, looks really bad in places.  Has anyone dyed leather and how to get a match for color?
Any comments or information would be greatly appreciated.

Try shoe polish in the pan! It's creamy & rubs in , now keep in mind it's going to darken it! Saddle soap does a great job. Something got spilled & my seats needed help! So I went over the whole thing. 
So think of it as a pair of shoes!
