Has anyone planted anything except grass for your front lawn that can be mowed and it has to live in Minnesota with us.

I have not but there are options available instead of grass. You need to research you hardiness zone first. There are new plants called stepables. They do not require mowing but endless possibilities.

I have done a lot of research but not come up with anything. I won't be happy if it looks like I have a yard full of flowers and I imagine our neighbors wouldn't like it either. I have not heard of stepables. I will look it up right away. Thanks!

Our friends planted clover instead of grass, not sure how it would withstand your weather in Minnesota but it works great here in canada :) Good Luck

@B. Enne Like the toadstools in my lawn - they just kept spreading but think I have finally won the war!

If you want it to look like grass, I was told about buffalo grass is supposed to be a good lawn substitute, less water and maintenance. Can be mowed or left to look like meadow. Creeping thyme is a good lawn substitute that doesn't need mowed.

I don't have an answer. But my husband's view is if it's green, it's grass. Yes, he has to mow it, but i's beautiful. Of course, if you live in a fancy, structured subdivision, the HOA may not like the look.

Love your husbands attitude, Liliana! We do have an HOA (Not a fancy sub division, tho) so are going to have to check our rules before we decide on anything.
