Picking up this beautiful maple table at a local thrift store and decided to do a colour wash.

Fortunately the table top was in good condition. So I just cleaned the entire piece with T.S.P. cleaner.

Then I flipped it over and taped off the table top edges and painted the entire piece with a custom colour I created using Fusion Azure and Fusion Coal Black (4 tbsp blue, 1/2 tbsp black). I did 2 coats and waited for it to dry.

Then I mixed Fusion Liberty Blue with water (half & half) and brushed the mixture over the entire piece with a paint brush, working in small sections at a time. Then I used damp paper towels to wipe off the wash to show the colour underneath . Being sure to leave the darker colour in all the detailed wood work. Unfortunately while I was working on the legs some of the colour wash pooled at the base and dried before I was able to smooth it off with the paper towels. When I tried to add a little water to blend it in, it started to remove paint down to the wood.

I let the piece fully dry overnight. Then I mixed 1 tsp of the Azure Blue with 1 tsp of Liberty blue, and 1/2 a tsp of water. I brushed the mixture into the corners where the pools had happened. Then ever so lightly I blended the edges of the brush marks with a damp paper towel to feather it in.

It worked pretty well!

These are the products I used.
