redoing bathroom

This is how my bathroom turned out. The vanity was a stained golden oak , now I need advice on what to do with the door and door frame on the bath side. The entire house woodwork is golden oak. Should I leave it stained on the bathside or should I paint it white like the vanity ??

I would paint it white. You did a great job.

it looks very nice. I would just leave it alone. (nothing like two confliciting opinions right away, huh?) lol

I have seen this go both ways as well...painted White on one side ...wood on the other. Personally I'm a fan of wood...just not acres of golden oak. I have one more door to replace in my place (door from kitchen to laundry) all of my other doors have been replace with knotty pine and clear pine trim. with painter walls it is just a touch of wood to provide the natural "warmth".

OK, maybe this will be the tie breaker. Beautiful job on your bathroom. Keep in mind that Oak has been around from when man first discovered its strength and beauty. If you have solid doors, they can be painted and then later on they can be stripped. So for now it is just a matter of taste and how long you plan to be in your home. Painting one side of the door would not make a big stripping job. But beware...once you paint one, you might want to take off after all that wood with paint brush in hand. Hint...just back off and give it some time...you might find it might be best to just leave well enough alone and again the need to paint it might make you have nightmares!

Paint it. I had the same dilemma in my old house in KS when we remodeled the kitchen. We painted it and loved it and sold that house in record time. Not an issue for resale when it fits the space.

I'm with KMS because I'm obsessed with the beauty of the woods grain. That being said, our half bath has painted trim and baseboard with the door and it's frame both stained. I'll try to get a photo later, but it's a difficult room to photograph.
  • Maybe you should add some sort of wood trim decor to the door (like judges panels) and paint them white, but leave the door the natural color. That may blend in a bit better.....I noticed you have some sort of bead board on the doors. Maybe you frame three "squares" of beadboard on that side of the door. Again, you could incorporate both colors. If you installed painted bead board and trim, it could be removed at a later date if needed.

Maybe use some wood or wicker accesories to the space and the door will blend in fine. Also you could hang a floor length framed mirror on the back of the door painted the same color as the bath and it won't have such a big contrast.
