I have real hardwood in my living room & want to put new flooring in my kitchen (currently a cheap-o vinyl).

I would like to put water-safe wood laminate in the kitchen but am afraid it will look too fake next to real hardwood. Any other ideas? I can't afford ceramic tile - the area is huge because it includes a dining room & laundry area.

Why not put real wood down? If not there are several solid wood systems that can be fastened down like a laminate floor. Pre-finished solid wood floors come in all types thickness and styles.

Unless your willing to pay for a better line of laminates or solid woods, the lower cost materials may look ok, but will not after they begin to wear.

Save your pennies and put more into the quality then skimp on the lower cost laminates on the market.

Rachel, you might try calling in some local flooring vendors. Many times the sales people have samples that you can place down and get a good look at it next to your other flooring.

I have prefinished real wood in my kitchen, love it. But check out some of the newer vinyls, some really nice designs nowdays!

I would be hesitant to put vinyl wood next to real, not only because of the obvious, but likely one will be floating and one will not. When you walk on it and the sound changes, it will draw attention.

Have you looked at the vinyls on the market these days? Patsy is right, there are some really good looking patterns! ...»

Otherwise.. evaluate the cost difference and maybe wait a little long to save up for hardwoods if you plan to stay in the home.

Thanks, all! Sounds like my best bet is to not settle for something lesser at this point. I appreciate all the advice!
