Can anyone recommend a landscape designer in the Cary/Raleigh, NC area?

We have been in our home for over 10 years but some recent changes (neighbor is building an addition, newly opened road behind our berm) has made us realize that we need an overall plan that includes both hard and softscaping. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you.

There are some landscapers listed on Hometalk in you area. If you go to 'contractors' and put in your zip code you will find the list.

With all the landscape design students graduating from NC State there are a lot of good landscape designers in the area. Most of the independent garden centers in the area (GardenHut in Fuquay-Varina; Atlantic Avenue Garden Center, Campbell Road Nursery,Homewood Nursery, Logan Trading Center, Norwood Road in Raleigh; Garden Supply in Cary) have some names they will share. If there is a house in your neighborhood that is well-landscaped you might ask them fo a recommendation.

Thank you Mike and Anne. Although I am not much of a gardener I have enjoyed listening to your show over the years! My question back to you is, since we have to consider fencing, maybe an arbor or somethng to solve

the privacy and noise issues, as well as need the person/company to handle most of the implementation...does this narrow the field or is this a standard expectation? In other words, we need ...»

more than someone to come and draw and diagram with suitable plants..It just seems so overwhelming to figure out....

Joan, it may seem overwhelming to you to figure out but it won't be to a professional. Making recommendations to deal with all of the site issues, including a fence or arbor, is part of the design process.

Knowing the owners of most of the good independent garden centers in our area I think you will find that they will have someone to recommend that can take care of the problems you describe. Since you are in Cary, why not go by Garden Supply or Cary Garden Center to see who they might recommend.

Southern Scapes in Raleigh. Owner Larry Roper. He will do you right. More concerned about doing it right than making a buck.

Hoyt Bangs does an excellent job. He's one of tose NCSU graduates that stayed in the area. He landscaped his own yard so that would give you an idea of the type work he does.
