Paint or Wallpaper? Yes, this project is painted!

There are many advantages to utilizing paint instead of wallpaper:

1) You choose the perfect color(s) for your project. There is no need to spend hours ...»

looking through wallpaper books

2) You choose the exact design to fit the scale and style of your space. The options that are now available with paint are infinite.

3) Walls are rarely straight. Floors and ceilings are rarely level. Using paint allows you to disguise these imperfections by adjusting the patterns as you go. Designs can be placed so they are VISUALLY correct rather than MATHEMATICALLY correct.

4) Measuring for wallpaper can be tricky. This is especially true if the walls are curved, angled or have a lot of fixtures to consider. Mistakes are costly. Any unopened packages can be returned but are usually subject to a restocking fee. If you are short, you run the risk of the additional rolls not being a perfect match.

5) Since wallpaper comes in double rolls, you must make sure to order plenty. I hate to see the excess paper go to waste. I would rather see a leftover quart of paint. Chances are, it can be used for another project in that space.

6) Paint can be repaired easily with a paint brush.

7) If you have ever stripped wallpaper you understand the cost and mess that is involved with removing. A painted wall requires only primer and paint when you are ready for a change.

If you are looking to add spice to a room, you may want to explore the options that are now available with paint.

This is one couples solution to beautify a horrible plain white retaining wall in their back yard.

Painting: Advice on chalk paint and wax.

I have an old fat pine mantle that came from my gran's old home place. It's heavy as sin and practically petrified. I've moved it 1000 times, it seems. I want to paint it with chalk ...»
paint and distress to the point of seeing wood grain....maybe more of a pickling effect. I plan to mount it on exterior wall under cover of overhang, them place my old coal grate in front of it, creating an outdoor fire site. I don't know anything about this waxing process. Want to know what kind and how much wax to use, and how to use it.

    Hi ...»

I really like the look of milk paint. Is there any application for which you would NOT recommend it?

  • This is a silver tray with a Scottish theme. I stayed at a Scottish Bed and Breakfast on vacation and took this project along to work on and finished it in one weekend and left it for the Innkeeper as a token of my appreciation. 2

My Refurbished Furniture

Antique headboard I refinished to go with my decor for my bedroom, and an old white shutter I bought at a yard sale and made into a wall decoration for hanging hats or jewelry or whatever I choose.

It's all in the details...

use accent lighting to add that special touch in unexpected places. Note in the photo the use of sconces each side of the hood and matching rectangular fixture over the Baker's island.

Turn a 1980's light fixture into a lantern for your garden!

Don't throw it out! ....re-use it! We found this cool light fixture at a Thrift store and could not pass it up! With a little frost spray paint and black spray paint we gave it new life in the garden as a lantern!
