About Me:

I closed on my first house on 12/14/11 after a very stressful short-sale process. The home is only 9 years old but there are some changes I'll be making. I am doing as much research as possible before I start any major projects. Painting is mostly complete. Next up: kitchen counters.

Favorite area of home improvement:

DIY projects (and research!!)

Remodeling: First time home buyer here. I close tomorrow! Yikes!

That said- the house is currently painted a nice, 'safe', beige with some maroon accents. Beautiful yes, but I want to do something completely different.. Simply because I CAN. ...»

The first pic is my master bath. I want to paint the walls a dark grey. I think it would look fab with the white tile/trim. However, I do not currently have plans of changing the cabinets, which are wood. Is this going to look ridiculous?

Same issue with the kitchen.. The previous owner has blue laminate counters (which I want to change, SOMEDAY), and a darker blue tile backsplash. IMO it does not mesh with the cabinet color, or the current wall color. What I want to change right now: I'm going with a wayyy lighter grey in the living spaces/kitchen/etc (with a smokey blue accent wall in living room)

So. Is going to a cooler nuetral color going to be painful to look at with the warm cabinet colors? A kitchen remodel is in my 5 year plan but not tomorrow.

Thanks fellow hometalkers :)

Home Maintenance & Repairs: Soft spot on floor of tub -- when do I worry?

My master bath has a jacuzzi whirlpool "majora". No jets, so no access panel. I've noticed a 'soft' spot on the tub floor about 3" round. I cannot see it with my eyes-- its that shallow. ...»
But i can feel it with the ball of my foot, or my hand. I just bought the house 4 months ago. There are no visible cracks, and no water damage to the floor underneath (it's over a second bathroom).

I can't figure out what it could be. Also I can't access it-- there's my kitchen shared wall on one side and a linen closet on the other. My bf tells me not to worry but I am worried about water damage that I cannot see...

So, is it time to call a pro? And which type of pro do I call?

Thanks all.

children using it we have been fortunate to have no cracks or leaks. I always check it when I am washing the tub for changes.

I achieved a farmhouse country restyle for my builders grade oak cabinet kitchen by adding a beadboard backsplash, wood

corbels, painted cabinets and I did all the work myself for under $500.00. I incorporated some great thrifted pieces and removed some doors for an open shelf look. My favorite feature is ...»
my handmade curtain under my sink...very vintage farmhouse.

I love the final look of my new restyled room and it was so econimical.
