  • The blooms are smaller and pale compared to last year. Also, I have had it at least 4 years and would think it should be bigger.

Gardening: Poor blooms on Nellie Moser clematis

My Nellie Moser clematis, the kind with the pink and white stripes, did not bloom well this year. The flowers were smaller, color washed out, and didn't last long at all. It did well last year but still isn't a very big plant for as long as I have had it. I have it growing behind a fairly large azalea, to shade the roots, but I am wondering if the azalea is too big, and blocking too much sun from the plant. Could this be the problem or are there other reasons for a clematis to not do well?

Gardening

Do you know what this plant is, or is it just a weed? It is about 4' tall already with no flowers.

Outdoor Living: How to attract hummingbirds

I had such a wonderful response to an earlier question that I decided to ask another. What plants/bushes native to Florida's gulf coast will attract hummingbirds? Simply hanging feeders hasn't proven successful.

Gardening: I have two plum trees that definitely need help.

These trees were given to me as a birthday present 7 years ago. One has leaves but never blooms. The other blooms and has given fruit the last 3 years but the plums are really tiny and quite bitter. Any suggestions on how to improve them?

Gardening: Peonies

Should the greenery of the peony be cut after it has bloomed? If so, when would be the best time to cut?

Roxann, dig it up entirely and then carefully divide it into a few plants. Replant them where ...»
you want but they probably won't bloom for a year or two. I did this about 10 years ago and took one massive plant and turned it into about 10 plants. All are thriving now and the main plant is probably ready for another division. Good luck!

Gardening: Care of peonies.

Do you cut back the leafy portion of the plant after it has bloomed and when would be best to do so? I have many of different colors and just love the blooms and fragrance.
