Closet Turned Reading Nook and Toy Storage

My son has two full sized closets in his room, but really only needs one. I turned this extra closet into a reading nook, sleepover bed, toy storage and hideaway for him.

  • Back side of island before..
  • Side view...
  • Front view...they were much more faded and worn in person...
  • I added some trim on the back side before painting...I have corbels to add just haven't gotten them up yet.
  • I did light distressing...
  • I sealed with the lacquer versus waxing just because of the size and I wanted a very durable finish.
  • Close-up..I let the glaze settle in the grooves and it also hides any roller marks from the lacquer.
  • Finally got the corbels up!

Painting My Kitchen Island with Annie Sloan Chalk Paint

We built our house during the 90's ode to oak era...so all the cupboards, trim, windows and flooring are oak. I finally made the time to paint my island with chalk paint. I used Annie ...»
Sloan Chateau Grey and AS lacquer then I finished with Valspar glaze. I'm so happy with the results as it breaks up that sea of oak! So I have a new island for about $60! Next up... the countertop!

Modern & Graphic Painted Crystal

I personally find cut crystal a little fussy and old fashioned... but with some glass paint, I was able to update pieces with a graphic and modern design! It reminds me a little of 'reverse' cranberry glass or fretwork now.

Foyer Project

This is my first project of 2013. My foyer is quite small and unimmpressive so I decided to give it a little lift. I installed Board and Batten, Decorative Moulding and Unique Hooks to create a coat rack. I hope you like it.

  • Light cover becomes a candle lantern (or display).
  • Traced the base of the cover, added an inch all around, cut from wood scrap, routered, and painted for a new base.

Turn an outdoor light fixture into a candle lantern!

I rescued this old light fixture cover, added a wood base, and now it can be used for a candle or any fun decor items you want to highlight. #Love2Repurpose

Chalkboard Mantle

This was so much fun! My husband cut a piece of wood for the opening in our mantle and I sprayed it with chalkboard paint. During Christmas it said "Baby, it's cold outside." :) I am ...»
pretty much chalkboard crazy right now and this saying is one of my favorites. k.
