About Me:

I'm a 27 year old mother of two and wife of the one. I am a home-owner of a very modest West Auckland (NZ) home that I love with all of my heart and slowly but surely I am transforming it into a haven. I have a love of all things vintage, or oozing character and a wee obsession with reading diy and decor blogs and magazines.

Favorite area of home improvement:

I love all areas of home improvement but for the time being (until I improve my skill set and gain more courage) my main improvements are decorative and temporary. Maybe soon I will be going crazy with paint and stencils.... maybe!

DIY Deer Silhouette Wall Hanging

I made this deer silhouette wall art using scotch tape. I don't have a stencil cutter so instead I layered the scotch tape over the surface of my hanging, and then used an image of a deer ...»
head over top to cut around using a craft knife. I was then able to peel away the scotch tape, and leave the remaining tape on the frame as my 'stencil'. So easy - I can't wait to make some more!

DIY Modern Rustic Inspired Living Room

We updated our living room recently, using 100% recycled materials.

The wall hanging is made of NZ native tawa tongue and groove reclaimed from an old villa. ...»

The LOVE wall hanging and coffee table were made from salvaged tongue and groove flooring. The base for the coffee table is made of two storage crates made of pallet wood. The TV unit was purchased second hand for $1, and stripped of it's originating mdf and replaced with native tawa to match the wall hanging, and finally, completing the room is the charcoal rug, a large off cut of carpet that was recycled from an office fit out. The whole room cost us nothing but time to complete. We love the look which is very child friendly, and adds quite a masculine vibe to the house, keeping the man of the house happy too.

Thanks for all of the lovely comments! We still have some things to do in this room including ...»
lamps and some cushions/throws for the couches - to add some feminine touch! We also need to address the ceiling tiles and light fitting. In Auckland (New Zealand) you can pallets from any industrial area - they are everywhere - or if you can't get them and like the look I suppose you could use untreated fence timber?
