Rooting Sago Palm!

We took advantage of picking up a windmill palm while visiting my sister on the coast. A friend of hers had cut down a Sago Palm that had branches 6" dia. My son wanted to plant one and see it it would root. Obviously it did! So I am sending this to all, especially Douglas Hunt!

ANTS? Easy, Safe Solution!

An exterminator told my friend that when you begin to see ants, they are the scouts. Stop these and you won't have ants. My son discovered that if you spray them with Windex (or any other glass cleaner), they are exterminated. Keep after it for a while and you won't have ants. We have used this for years. 2 days ago our humming bird feeder leaked onto the concrete front porch...the liquid got down in the crack between brick and concrete so there was not way to flush it out. Ants ...»
appeared quickly, I sprayed them with Windex. Watched through the day and kept spraying them. Now ant free! Safe for kids, pets and environment! It is worth a try before you spend hundreds.

  • Notice the windmill Palm! We learned it will grow in our zone! Hope we planted it far enough from the house.
  • We live in a tree house! The limb is almost touching our deck about 12' up!
  • These are my colorful pots sitting in the rain to liven up before we hang them!
  • Photo taken in rain, we have all kinds of palms. We have discovered Ponytail Palm (not really a palm) & love! These are for porch & deck.
  • This looks sort of pitiful now! Hee, hee, but it will fill in. Hubby anchored my MILL WHEEL so no one would take it.

Getting Things Ready for Spring

These photos were taken in the rain, but it shows that we have been busy getting ready to get things outside. Everything is going to be colorful! The pots are for the porch...sitting in ...»
the rain because it is good for them. We got 3 Windmill Palms planted! We put out 5 Hydrangeas out front...1 new & 4 rooted (small but will grow). We will have hanging baskets in the arches and on shepherds poles. Notice the circle how sparse, but it will fill in...those Hostas will really get a lot bigger and that is a banana tree in the middle! A Granite MILL WHEEL! (Hubby anchored it to keep someone from taking it!) I just hope it all comes together. I will post later when porches and decks are finished! Wow! Lots of prep work!

Are you one of those that continually forgets that "something so special" that you wanted to try later?

So many times I see a great idea in a posted comment on HT or somewhere else that I want to remember. Guess what? It flies right out of my head. Today I started a FOLDER on my computer ...»
named "DON'T FORGET". The first thing to go in it was "Recipe for Chalk Paint" by Shanna Gilbert, followed by the tip by Teresa Britton on Wet & Forget Shower". So many times I see things mentioned in the comments section that I would like to know about later but can never remember them. NOW I KNOW WHERE TO FIND THEM!

  • Roses made from shaved soap...smell good and are beautiful.
  • I wanted to enjoy these a while before I used them in my bath...this is my solution.

You don't have to have a need for it -- love it just because it is beautiful!

My daughter is good at finding things that are stunning (she has that artist eye). She picks out the cutest gift ideas. This year she found roses made out of shaved soap. Of course all ...»
the girls loved them. I took mine and filled a large delicate wine glass half full of purple marbles and sat the roses on top. LOVE IT! The soap leaves a great scent in the living room. Here are photos...the pink is so light it is difficult to photograph, but I think you can get the idea. When they begin to lose their luster, I will fill up the tub and enjoy them all over again!

Egg carton seeding method

Gardening: Does anyone know the name of a palm that can survive in cold weather?

For some time now we have been looking for some tall exotic plants that will survive cold weather...we get several days below freezing here in Atlanta. I have seen some and thought I ...»

I can see the site, but I when I try to open comments, it goes to "oops" page. And if I click ...»
on "like" it takes me back to the beginngin of the page. When I open HT, there are almost 2 screes of faces on the left 2" --rest of screen blank -- then faces continue with postings in center of page and "feedback, like & save" at the bottom of the post instead of to the right! He uninstalled chrome and and installed internet explore 8 but still is not working back to normal. Oh Well!
