  • the pots already have holes in them, just string a rope through them making a couple of nuts between each one so they have mobility and dont get stuck together

  • Start by placing a row of bamboo stakes solidly in the ground. Weave another length of bamboo back and forth between the stakes. Repeat with another stake but alternating the weave.

Concrete Garden Path

We made this garden walkway with a mold that we purchased at Lowe's. We mixed the Quickcrete up and then poured it into the mold a section at a time. It was almost like making mud pies. It was a bit time consuming but we were very happy with the end result. It has held up very well as it has been down now for about 3 years.

  • The room has a completely new feel to it, and the tile looks just like ceramic in person. Another plus about this tile is that it is not as cold as ceramic tile.
  • Phase 1 of our bathroom renovation, complete!
  • I purchased our vinyl tiles from Lowe's. They are about $1/tile, and we used about 20 tiles for this space.
  • I started by removing the air vent to create a template to cut the first piece of tile.
  • I placed a sheet of paper on the floor, lining up the edges with where my tile will sit, and then used a permanent marker to make the template.
  • Iplaced the template on the tile and cut the tile with a utility knife. Shallow cuts do the trick and then you can just pop the piece out.
  • After the cut was made, I placed my tile on the floor, making sure to apply weight to it, as per the instructions on the box.
  • Since we were grouting the tile, we used spacers between each tile and continued laying them throughout the room.
  • Around the toilet, I made a template as well, but had to tape a few pieces of paper together, and pushed the paper down around the toilet to get accurate lines.
  • Here is the floor pre-grout. Looks so much better than before, but tile is always better after you grout it!
  • We picked up the grout at Home Depot. It was about $10 for this pre-mixed, but I'm using it for another room as well, so the cost for this is actually only $5!
  • After about a half hour of grouting, and 24 hours of dry time, the floor looks brand new! We also sealed this tile with sealer that we already had, which is about $10.

  • Nothing says Easter (or spring) like eggs and young plants. I decided to mix the two by planting tiny succulents in a ceramic egg crate.
  • Cactus soil is important when planting succulents in a small space with no drainage. 1
  • Don't have a ceramic egg crate? Buy one here: http://amzn.to/XXwH1g These also make excellent jewelry holders!
  • Fill part way with cactus soil.
  • Arrange your succulents. Once planted there's no need to water. Simply mist with a water bottle to keep moist.
  • Present proudly to your host(ess)!

  • I like to grow a wide variety of carrots in all different colours. You'll need flour, water, a paint brush or pencil, ruler, seeds, and fine tip marker.
  • Add a tiny bit of water to flour to make a sticky paste.
  • Dab the brush in the flour glue and pick up a seed.
  • Set the seeds on the tape at the recommended distance apart. Write the seed names on the tissue with a fine tip marker. Allow everything to dry.
  • Plant the seed tapes at the recommended seed planting depth. The toilet paper will gradually dissolve. This method has provided me with a huge bounty of carrots. 2

How To Make Seed Tapes For Planting Tiny Seeds

Some tiny seeds can have poor germination rates because the wind, rain, or birds carry them away. To counter this, I started making seed tapes for certain crops like carrots. Now, not ...»
only has the germination rate been excellent, but the carrots grow at set distances apart so there's no need for thinning the seedlings.

There's several options-I like using toilet paper, flour, and water. I've provided more information below and on my blog.
