  • My oven was already in need of a cleaning and then I dumped some vanilla all over the bottom {If you place a tbsp of vanilla in the oven for 20 minutes it makes the kitchen smell wonderful - just don't spill it!} 2
  • Make a paste of baking soda and water and spread it over the entire oven. Let sit for an hour to overnight. Then wipe it clean. {You can also spray some vinegar over it once it has dried for some extra cleaning power} 2
  • And then you have a nice clean oven! 3

Easter eggs dyed with onion shell

I had quit on buying colors for egg dying couple of years ago. Since then, I had been using onion shells - it is easier, healthier and keeps amazing me with variety of shades. Every egg turn out differently :)

  • So easy to do this! You don't even need elbow grease! http://www.thevspotblog.com/2011/07/cleaning-stove-burners-grates-best.html
  • Ick! (I cook a lot... don't you judge me.) ;)
  • Take the disgusting, yucky burner and seal it up in a big Ziploc-type bag with about 1/4 cup of ammonia and let it sit overnight.
  • The same burner, 12 hours and no scrubbing later. Ammonia fumes have worked their magic. It's the fumes that dissolve the grease, not the ammonia itself.

An easy spring cleaning tip for one of the worst jobs in the house!

My stove burners get absolutely disgusting. Sealing them up with a tiny bit of pure ammonia makes it possible to just wipe clean with a sponge. #SpringCleaning http://www.thevspotblog.com/2011/07/cleaning...

Create Your Own Customized Room Scent

Tired of harsh, artificial room sprays and scents? Why not create your own from all-natural ingredients? I created these room scents from lemon, rosemary and vanilla. ...»

To create my personalized scent, I started with two fresh lemons and then added 2 stalks of rosemary and a teaspoon of vanilla in 2 quarts of water in a pan on the stove. I brought the ingredients to a boil and then turned the heat down to let them simmer.

As the water evaporated, I added more water to keep the fruit and herbs covered at all time.

And as the mixture simmered, the house was full of the smell of spring.

And now...I'm growing my own herbs so I have a built-in supply for a fresh smelling house every day!
