Gardening: Can you identify this plant?

This came up in the corner of my yard next to the fence. I dug it up and replanted it in my perennial bed, because it looked like it might be something good! Can anyone tell me what it might be?

Ponds & Water Features: OK HomeTalkers What Would You Do With this Hole if It Were in Your Yard?

We have this here pond in our yard. Our thought has always been to get in up and running again ... but want reasonable and easy. As it stands I plan to clean it up, repair cracks, possibly parge coat the concrete and paint with a pool grade paint. I would like to figure if there is someway to consider fish, but as I understand it fishies don't like the lime in the concrete. I am open to any and all of your thoughts. thank you. ~jb

  • An organic, raised garden table, planted by the square foot method using companion herbs and flowers...and a little veggie bling.
  • 1. Companion Flowers -
Marigold, Petunia and Zinnia are the cheerleaders of veggie teams. 1
  • 2. Trellis -
Keep it light and simple. Pictured here are two inexpensive bean tents that were snipped at the hinges to make four trellis panels. 3
  • 3. String Ribbon -
Use reflective ribbon pinned by shiny thumbtacks to stake out your square foot garden. Adds color and keeps the birds away.
  • 4. Beneficial Herbs -
Plant basil, chamomile, thyme and other herbal veggie companions. Add color and fragrance to your garden while repelling pests.
  • 5. Beads -
Better bling than pinwheels. String inexpensive Mardi Gras beads to add sparkle and pop. In dusk, they give the illusion of holiday lights. 1
  • 6. Whimsy -
Every garden must have a gnome but consider adding toys like small animals and action figures.
  • We're adding dinosaurs this year.
  • Now that we have the Garden Stamp, we are setting aside the yardstick and extra ribbon to focus on planting square foot patterns of edible color. 1
  • Stamped out.
  • Update: It worked!
  • For 2013: Don't neglect those containers. See our post on this simple bamboo & ribbon pea trellis.
