Personally I think it's too much, but like Miriam I agree it's all in personal taste. When I refinish or make something from scratch I want it to look new, not like it's been sitting neglected in the elements for years.

I have some friends that love this wore out look and don't really care for my pristine stained wood, however, we respect each others choices. I mean if we all liked the same things our lives, and our homes, would be very boring.
