  • before-faux marble sink & brown texured walls
  • short ceiling (under stairs and plumbing fixtures from upstairs)
  • nice! sanding has begun.
  • Hubby's makeshift supports while bead board adhesive dried on ceiling-we did not want to use too many nails.
  • type of mouling used on the top of paneling
  • Oops-we had a little trouble getting the paneling back behind the toilet. In retrospect-we should have taken the toilet out-but we thought we could get it in there- and then the damage was done. Nothing a little patchwork can't hide.
  • I love the ceiling now. He painted before and after it was up. A LOT of white paint.
  • all done and in time for company. It's BRIGHT!!

Bathroom re-do

The long weekend of Thanksgiving gave us the opportunity to revamp our powder room with some much needed upgrades. We sanded down the textured wall, painted, paneled them with bead board, ...»
and did the same bead board treatment on the ceiling. Changed out the counter top, sink and faucet and the whole room is not a drab dungeon anymore.

Powder room ceiling and wall suggestions?

Hubby and I found a great deal on a new granite counter top and ordered a new ORB faucet. And so begins the Thanksgiving weekend adventure...This room is tiny-sink/cabinet and toilet-4.5 ...»
ft x 6.5 feet-Only 7 ft ceiling since its under the stairs. I've been looking at faux "tin" tiles, painted stencils and beadboard-I LOVE them all but has anyone had any luck with any of these on Hometalk? What would you suggest for the ceiling treatment? As you can see from one the photos-the bathroom upstairs has leaked down into the drywall in this bathroom-we'd like something to cover this damage and any future leaks (of the unpredicatble toilet variety). The wall need something too-grainy orange peel needs to go -but since the ceiling is so short-will board & batten or beadboard shorten or expand height of the room visually? Panel the whole darn room?

Please post photos when you are done. I have seen where bead-board was brought up to about ...»
checst high and a narrow shelf of abut 4" was put on top! Stunning. They used that molding that people use on fireplaces...you know...that decorative big stuff...and put a 1x4 on top! I wish I had a picture to send you but I don't. It is that type of molding that is at the top of big pieces of furniture. The textture paint is so easy...done with a roller. Be sure and get bathroom paint or at least a paint with a some level of protective sealer in it.

Our laundry room (partial) makeover. I'm getting pretty stoked about my cheery laundry room!

It all started with a stolen idea to turn my broken blinds into a pretty roman shade with this adorable fabric I found (thank you apartmenttherapy.com). Then the paint color was next- ...»
hubby painted doors and trim white (was off-white), walls went to a happy yellow. Believe it or not-we spray painted our brass door fixtures with ORB and clear coat (so far-not a scratch). The melamine cabinets were handy- but awful-doors were chipped with worn plastic pulls to boot! Found more cute fabric to cover the doors and hubby added the trim pieces + colorful ceramic knobs and ta-da! Oh, nabbed an old cork board and covered it with the same fabric and painted trim red; used scrap fabric for a valance. I won't be dreading laundry day now! Next is more finishing: crown, more coats of white paint needed and definitely new switches. Getting more ideas for the sink. I think the cats even like their new shared space. Simple and inexpensive solutions for a fabulous fix for my dreary laundry room.

My husband and I just finished our son's wall quotes.

I bought the decals from a vendor on Ebay, but did not want to put them directly on the wall, so we painted MDF boards white (several coats) then my son helped me "distress" them with ...»
sandpaper, brown acrylic paint and gauze. We love how it came out!

stinky, stained carpet that was down.) Hubby added wainscoting and crown, painted walls & ceiling, changed chandy (after spray-painting brass to ORB). I didn't like having all spindle-y chairs so I covered 4.
