Gardening: Nelly Stevens Holly Problem

Pls see attached pics of NS Holly leaves. This plant was transplanted about 14 months and went through some stress following the transplant. I kept it well watered and it seemed to have ...»
recovered but I am noticing some spots on the leaves and what appears to be insect damage, although I don't find any insects on the leaves following multiple morning and evening inspections. Any comments/suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Spent a lot of time/effort digging this up to move it to a better location away from the house. It was a typical 'wrong plant, wrong place' issue from the builder who apparently didn't know any better. This plant is roughly 6-8 years old and is about 8.5' tall. Really nice looking plant so I want to keep it!

  • I dug my hole about 3-4 inches deeper than the stones. I covered the base of the hole with a layer of weed block fabric, then 2-3 inches of sand. I laid out stones in a circular pattern starting in the center.

If your kids are like my kids, you are gonna want to replace that turf near the swing set w/ ...»
some non-biodegradable fill material. Otherwise you will end up with a big dirt area that becomes a mud area every time it's wet.

I love the idea of minimizing turf to keep the maintenance requirements low. Electric mower ...»
would seem to more than suffice for this part. Of course that depends on the size of the front yard also I guess!

  • A nice touch to this project that utilized 500,000 pounds of stone to build a pond, wetland filter, waterfalls, fire pit, pavilion and stone steps to a remote seating/viewing area under the pine beside the cascading water
  • Adding a copper colored standing seam roof to the pavilion. You can see the bridge to the left as well as the wood burning fire pit in the foreground.
  • Timber Frame Pavilion with gas firepit/table on bi level Trex deck over steel 'Elevations' substructure.
The stone pillars are built to match the home's entryway pillars as well as the retaining walls on the grounds and around the pond
  • Stained pine tongue and grove decking make a warm overhead inside the pavilion.
  • The primary falls of the water feature present to the pavilion area.
  • A great place to reflect and enjoy at the end of the day!

Very nice looking job, but I have to say that I was struck by the fact that a homeowner would ...»
spend what had to have been a _LOT_ of money to construct something like this and then allow one of the 'views' from the new area to be towards that above ground propane tank in their back yard! See the second posted slide for clarity. Hopefully Aquascapes offered to come bury that thing for them just to get it out of sight and out of the picture as people look at the great work you guys did!
