  • I gave the tops of the painter tarps a pocket so I could easily slide the pipe through.I sewed a hem on the bottom of the painter tarps based on the height of the pergola.
  • I spray painted pipes purchased at home depot for a cheap alternative
  • This is how we secured them to the house.
  • We can block the direction of the sun from any direction. On a side note, I might have added something on the bottom hem to weigh them down so they don't blow when it is windy.

Outdoor Projects we have planned...

Well... we are at it again.

It happens every spring, we get that first taste of fresh air and we start to think about ...»

all the outside projects we want to do.

This year... there are quite a few.

The first one is simple but will make a huge difference.

Kent and I chose old world cobblestones in Granite for the lane way, patios and pathways when we built the house.

Yes... we did it ourselves... one cobble at a time... Yes, you can clap... I will wait. :)

Seriously, It was a lot of work but it looks great and we have been very happy with it.

The only problem was... we ran out of cobbles and energy.

The area that needs finishing is at the back of the house under the garage overhang where we hang the canoe and keep the wood.

The next phase of our plan is a bit more... creative!

Don't be scared... just stay with me, it will be fine.

Here is the idea.

These amazing yet tired and tough antique windows are going to become inset on the fence between the posts on the garage overhang...

Are you feeling it?

Kent and I love to incorporate salvaged pieces into our projects... I love the tension and interest mixing old and new brings.

Don't worry, we will clean them up, replace any broken window sections and paint them all out.

I am very excited to get going on these projects... I will keep you posted!

  • The greatest show on earth!
  • If you have a circus, you gotta have a clown
  • Flag bunting made out of scrapbooking paper, bakers twine and tiny red pom poms. The poles are straw covered shish kebab skewers
  • Ferris wheel to add to the theme
  • I used an old rusty enamelware pan as the planter
  • Bacopa Scopia Great White - love the dainty white flowers
  • Sedum Kamtschaticum Ellacombeanum
  • Vampire Dianthus - has blood red flowers later in the season (to go with the enamelware basin)

Circus Themed Fairy Garden

When I decided to do a fairy garden, I wanted to do something different. I didn't want to be cliche and actually put a fairy in it, so I went with a circus theme. ...»

I planted it in a beat up, rusty enamelware basin that I bought at an estate sale which came with its own pre-rusted out holes for drainage.

(Yes, it is a little bit "just for show" with the paper flag bunting and all, but I am keeping it on my covered porch for right now and enjoying the festiveness of it.)

Now the question is, is it still a fairy garden even if there are no fairies in it?
