Gardening: Tomatoes in South Texas

We are in our second year in San Antonio and last year had very little yield from our tomato plants. This year we put them in the ground early (end of March). The plants have blossoms ...»
and are not in direct sunlight. Is there anyone out there who can help us increase the yield at this stage of the game?

When temperatures reach over 90 degrees, tomatoes stop pollinating themselves. I suspect this ...»
may be part of your problem. You can help them along by tapping the blooms gently each day to get the pollen 'activated'.

of like the ones at Christmas time. You could to a different theme per season. A 'western town' or a southern florida town. You could even light it at night.

I need help! I am trying reclaim a garden bed in the side of my house. Someone laid several layers of black plastic down years ago it appears and it has been over grown with moss. I have gotten 3 hostas to take in it. Am I right that I should pull up the plastic, til it and start over??

Outdoor Living: How to troubleshoot rainbird sprinkler systems?

After 5 years my system is not working correctly. Two of three zones run nonstop when turned on in the ground, even with the controller turned off and unplugged.

May Garden ~ Birdhouses & Flowers

In looking around the garden, I see a theme has developed. It's all about the birds and flowers. With approximately one hundred birdhouses, I suppose my collection is now nearing ...»
intervention status! Some are decorative and some are functional with clean-outs, but long ago I found out the birds are the ones who decide which is which. A bossy little house wren has commandeered the gazebo garden where she and her hubby have taken up residence in a blue bird house, chasing any other birds who dare to come near.

Every new flower is an awaiting surprise and , as I stroll our garden, bird song greets me. A red fox streaked across the front lawn this early morning, probably from the cat food on our porch. We've had lovely rains and everything is an intense shade of spring green.

sounds like it might be white flies. You can try using a soft brush vacuum early in the ...»
morning while it is cool (when they are most inactive),if you don't want to use a chemical spray. Put the vacuum on a low setting if you can so as not to damage the leaves of your plants. One of those hand held car vacs might work.

Gardening: This plant is very old. Just last year, I put 3 different smaller pots

together into this longer planter. They've lived outside all spring thru fall on my shady deck for years and have always done well. But look what happened this year. The now brownish and not-so-pretty areas were new growth, I believe. What do you suppose made this happen? Nothing bad is happening to them right now but I want to make sure it doesn't.
