Some tips...buy pre-primed molding if you intend to paint it (it will make your life 100% ...»
better...HA...raw wood soaks up a lot of paint!) and if you are staining it, make sure you buy the "stainable grade". Be careful you do not get above your skill level! And do you plan to use a coping saw? Molding is an art and anyone can learn it...but you sure better have a lot of patience. However, home improvement stores have fittings for the corners which do not require as much fitting talent! I redid a small bathroom and put in small turned square like dowels in the corners....precious. They make them in all sizes and designs. If you have convex and concave corners, uh oh! If you have a friend that knows how to do this, ask for some lessons! That is how we learned to wallpaper!

Painting: I'd like to paint our wood paneling in our family room. Should I sand and use a primer first?

I would use a KILZ product on the wood first. No real need to sand, just wipe down with white ...»
vinegar / water and putty/spackle the nail holes if any and go to town! Take some before and after project pix Donna. Good luck to you! JL
