Checkerboard Floors

All of the rooms in our house have great, old hardwood floors. So when we first walked into the laundry room to find that the floor had been painted over and then scratched heavily by a ...»
dog of the previous owner we knew there was only one solution - paint it!!

We were inspired by an old restaurant in Talladega to go with very large checkerboards. We hope you enjoy the transformation! Each cherkbaord is 3ft by 3ft - we topped it off with 2 coats of poly urethane.

I want to make a water fountain! Inspiration and a plea for...help?

When I was down south, I spotted this wine bottle water fountain. I took a quick picture, asked the owner where he found it, when he proudly replied, "I made it!" ...»

Well, I thought his idea was genius! And while wine bottles aren't quite my thing, rusty junk is.

So I'm on the lookout for water feature material. And for added inspiration, here are a few of my favourite water features I found right on HomeTalk!

And I'd LOVE your advice. Do you have any tips that could help with a newbie water feature maker such as I? Any cool kits to try?

  • I ran out of space in this tree circle – so MWHP (My Wonderful Hubby Phil) had the idea to move the washtub up – way up on the tree itself! 2
  • Feed grain scoops (again with MWHP's idea of placing them on the tree) with our favorite wind chimes we made from flattened spoons and vintage kitchen tools. (they sound so very pretty!) 2
  • Radio flyer wagon, washtub and an old heater repurposed as a plant stand.

Repurposed Junk Garden

"A garden is like a child: a little wild, hard to contain but makes me smile." - seen on a garden sign ...»

As greatly inspired by many – I've turned my love of junk to the outside of my house with a quite-a-bit of junk-influenced gardening.

Hope you enjoy!

Entertainment Center into a Play Kitchen

Transformed a free entertainment center into a wonderful play kitchen for our kids. Easy to make and had a lot of fun doing this with my hubby. Spent less than $100 and the kids love it!
