A piece of heaven!

When I bought this house about 5 years ago this back yard was filled with trash, railroad lumber and ivy. My heaven is created with a lot of patience, love and shoveling. The very recently added pond we built out of roofing material and with less than $100 is my pride and joy!

Turn a tablecloth into a Floorcloth!

Today I wanted to show you guys a cool way to make a floorcloth that doesn't require any painting or designing of any kind on your part. All you need is a good eye and some bargain ...»
hunting skills, and I know ya'll have those in abundance. So lets get started!

I was shopping at my beloved Target and saw some GREAT printed tablecloths from the DwellStudio Line on the clearance endcap. Already reasonably priced at full price, they were clearanced out to$8.98! I don't normally use tablecloths, but couldn't pass up this bargain! I started wondering what other things I could do with them...Wall hanging? Foot-of-the-bed pop of color? Curtains? Slipcover fabric? Then I spotted a round one with a Suzani print, and got an idea!

Hop over to the blog to see the rest of this post and the tutorial!

from BEAST to BEAUTY. Custom Sea Glass colored antique dresser redo

Head on over and check out how I took this Beast of a dresser and made it BEAUTIFUL again. It took a ton of work including stripping veneer and buying a belt sander, but I think it was worth the work. What do you think?

  • Chair reupholstery - reconstructing the chair with re-used piping and new fabric.
  • My favorite chair (before) - lots of years of Mommyhood and raising babies sitting in this chair. :)
  • Removing the back. In my blog I explain how you sort of "discover" what to do next.
  • I was studying the original construction of the chair in this picture, which I reference all of my pictures later.
  • Using old remnants as a template. If you're like me and have never sewn before, look above. All you do? Trace the original piece, and duplicate exactly what you see. Straight, strong stitches are all you need.
  • Checking my cuts/sizing. I would do this often to check the fit. I added LOTS of batting to make the cushions extra soft.
  • Finished!
  • Another shot...very happy and people thought it was professionally done.

What's Your Garden Sign?

Every time I visit a garden, I look for a sign-a garden sign. Whether they're cute, funny, informative, philosophical, or simply welcoming, it's always interesting to see what's there. ...»
Sometimes the sign itself is a work of art, with others it's the words that matter (see the composting sign below).

What's your garden sign? Can you know a gardener by their signs?

You can see more signs plus the gardens they are from here: http://www.empressofdirt.net/gardensign/
