  • These windows are floor to ceiling & when I remodeled the den using a light and airy design the dark wood blinds didn't work. My remodel budget was next to nothing so I had to do something drastic! I repainted those dark blinds!
  • To take out the slats you simply remove the knot at the bottom of the blinds that hold the slats together. Then slip string out...the string runs through every slat from top to bottom (each slat has 2 ) Now, remove the slats.
  • We set up a table with all the slats lined up-painted one side-let dry-paint other side. When dry, thread the slats into their "hammocks" & thread the strings back through the slits in the slats and tie off at the bottom!
  • Big bang for our buck! We have since moved but still own that house and those blinds are still up and look as good as they did the first day we painted them!

Painting Wood Blinds!

Oh yes we did! I started a ginormous DIY project in our old house and promised The Husband I'd do it on a shoestring budget. As you know necessity is the mother of either invention or ...»
stupid ideas! :)

Either way, painting our wood blinds was one of the ways I got a big bang for our buck! This project isn't hard it's just takes time-so if you have more time than money and want to update your windows...this may work for you!

Time to spruce up the patio: before/after

Our patio sits right off of the kitchen. We enter through the house here, we entertain, we relax, dine and hang out here daily (weather permitting). Spent the weekend getting it all ...»
cleaned up. :) #mayprojects More details, decorating ideas and pictures at DIYShowOff. #BeforeAndAfter

  • Last summer my husband and I planted our first garden, a compact container garden between our driveway and house. 1
  • You can imagine how upset we were when something started eating our produce before we had a chance to.
  • My mother said it might be slugs and to get rid of them by getting them drunk. All you do is to fill small plastic containers with beer. Don't worry. The slugs will drink any kind.
  • Right before dark, dig small holes and position the containers so that they are even with the soil. Then fill them with beer. The slugs are attracted to the sweetness of it. They will crawl in to have a drink, and then they drown.
  • I got over 50 slugs in each container, and I only needed to do this two nights. Then they were completely gone. I knew that if other slugs appeared, I could repeat the process. 2

Did the Slugs/Snails Enjoy Eating Up Your Garden Last Summer?

Here's a simple and environmentally friendly way to get rid of them, and you probably have it in your frig right now. It's simple - beer. You have to use it in a special way. See how here: http://the2seasons.com/2012/06/05/lets-get-d...

  • I added some glass knobs to finish it off. Because this piece has two deep drawers that were formally file drawers, and 4 smaller drawers, it is very versatile.
I currently have it in the bedroom, storing boots, and business stuff. LOVE how versatile it is, and it's much smaller footprint. Same storage, less floor space. Win/win!

  • After spraying it with primer and black paint, I felt it needed a little something special, so I stenciled a flowering vine all the way up the front of the drawers. 3
